Welcome

As you can no doubt see, we have a new name. A new look, too! But, don't look too close as I don't have the bugs worked out yet, lol.

So, without further ado, let's get on with today's issue, shall we?

Wonder's Words

I find it just a bit hard to believe but the winning name is "Wonder". Yep. That's it. It won by one vote.

I've added eRag to let folks know which "Wonder" it is.

To me, it's kinda weird. Little like calling your publication The Linda Mag or Huey News. But I can live with it. So, from now on, I'll be "What's Her Name who writes Wonder" instead of "Wonder who writes What's Its Name".

Now, the sad part. The wonderful lady who nominated the new handle doesn't want the website. She's planning on going offline completely.

Makes me sad because she is another of my publisher friends who've recently "given up the ghost" and she'll be missed by many. I'm going to do some research on avoiding "burn out" for the rest of us and do an article soon but that's another day.

Today, I have another problem. I could pass the Grand Prize down the line but there wasn't a clear second-place winner. It was a 10 way tie and the rest of the entries weren't far behind.

So this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to have a "Second Chance" drawing for the Grand Prize that the winner declined.

The Grand Prize was free webhosting for a year. Not some cookie cutter site. Your own site to do anything with you want. Anything legal, anyway.

I have set up a special mail box for entries. The only prize that will be awarded is free webhosting. If you're not interested, please don't enter.

On December 31, I'll print out all of the entries on paper and have some disinterested third party (i.e, some drunk at my New Year's Eve party) pick the winner.

To enter send a blank email Enter Here

Now, the happy news. I appreciate all the effort and thought that went into picking a new name for the 'zine so much I've decided that everyone deserves a prize just for helping me out.

Because I don't have any idea of a prize you'd personally like, I put a whole lot of goodies on one page. Please go pick your own prize. It's o.k. if you pick more than one, too ;)

Click Here to choose your thank you gifts.

Or, you might want to put that off until later and get on with the rest of the ezine now.

Wonder's Sites Worth Seeing

This site occupied a whole evening for me awhile back. Need some creative ideas for your own 404 error page or just a few giggles? Check it out.

I'm pretty sure none of you are new computer users but it seems like we always know someone who is. This is a good site to send them to. Wish I'd known about it 3 or so years ago.

I'm kind of late with this site that would have been great for Halloween but I'll forget it by next year. Hey, we all like pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving anyway, right? Check out this pumpkin art.

Here are some extra links today just because, well, it is a special edition today!!

Grisoft has brand new AVG anti-virus software available for you to download free. I recommend you use in addition to whatever you already use.

In any case, don't go naked out here. I've never seen so many viruses as in the past couple of weeks.

I've included this blog of "Ghost Sites" so that you can glean some ideas on how to keep your site from becoming one :)

Changes - They are A'coming

Yes, I know. I'm always tell you that I'm going to change something. That's o.k. Change is good.

The biggest change is going to be the publishing schedule. I'm finding that you're getting short-changed many weeks because I'm trying to keep this every Sunday schedule.

The new schedule is going to be "erratic". I will try to get an issue to you at least a couple times a month. I really don't like having to rush things. I want to send you quality issues. Maybe this way, every issue can be up to my standards.

Another change, for my two or three real "fans" who will miss me, is that I'll be adding a blog to this site. And, yes, I really intend to write in this one :) I'll be using it for quick updates and news flashes when I don't have time for a full issue.

I will be adding an RSS feed to the blog as soon as I figure out how. Don't worry. I'll find a free reader and tell you how to get hooked up if you want.

One change, you can already see. There will be a site re-do to reflect our new name. However, this is just a test today. The rest of the site is still the old design.

Please let me know if you like this design.

Another change I'm working on is adding a forum to the site so that I can actually converse with you all and we can help one another. This won't be coming until after the first of the year but watch for it.

A small change that you might have already noticed is that there are links to great places on your left. The ones there today are permanent.

These are sites where you can go daily, click once, and accomplish great things for worthy causes. I do it. I want to encourage you to make it a habit too.

There will be more links coming but these will be to programs and things that I recommend. That way, it will be easy for you to see what programs I am an affiliate of.

The last change you'll find right now is that I will adding a humor section. I always enjoyed finding the jokes I put in my last ezine and I miss 'em. On top of that, one of the best online cartoonists has given me permission to add his weekly cartoon to my site :) He's really great so don't miss it!

Whew! That's about enough changes for one day, huh?

you do not care who gets the credit. " - Harry S. Truman ~

How To Effectively Use Offline Advertising To Build Your Online Business

First of all let me say that having spent the past 20 years working closely with small businesses I know exactly what works when it comes to offline advertising.

What I have found today is that that online businesses have a built in advantage when it comes to promoting their business offline. You already have a website and autoresponder in place to lead your prospect to. When you combine that fact along with the traditional capture methods of telephone and snail mail there is no reason any online business can't use offline methods to build their businesses and sell their products and services.

A lot of online based businesses forget about offline advertising. I know I have. It is important to combine offline and online advertising together in your marketing campaign. This will give you a more well rounded approach to promoting as well as attract potential prospects and customers you might not otherwise get.

In all your offline advertising you want to include your web site address, e-mail or autoresponder addresses, and your phone number and mailing address. This gives you the appearance of a real bonafide business.

Another thing is to start selling products for manufacturers who offer co-op advertising for promoting their products. You can read a little more about this technique in an article I wrote titled "Why Are You Wasting Free Advertising Money?".

Finally you need to view offline marketing as a long term commitment. I've seen businesses over and over run and ad, not get the response they were looking for and quit.

This will not work offline. Or online for that matter. You need to establish a budget and stick to it. That doesn't mean that you can't change the ad copy if your response is marginal. It just means if you are going to run classified ads for example that you run them for a period of time and allow them to do their job.

Here are 10 offline marketing ideas. Use as many of these as possible to move your business forward.

  1. Classified Newspaper Ads- Place classified ads in newspapers. Local newspapers often have great advertising rates that you can take advantage of to promote your business. Here's a great source for running classified ads. nationwideadvertising.com

  2. Put up flyers. They could be in computer stores, libraries, restaurants, car windshields, or anywhere you shop that allows flyers.

  3. Direct mail. A nice direct mail piece when done consistently over a period of time can bring tremendous exposure for your business. The biggest benefit of direct mail is it allows you to reach thousands of people at a bulk mail rate. You could not do this if you had to mail each piece individually.

  4. Buy time on local cable T.V. It is surprisingly affordable and if you commit to a block of advertising you can develop Top Of Mind Awareness. TOMA is being there when they want or need you. If you are an affiliate or in an MLM consider doing group advertising and spreading the cost out over several of you. You can have leads routed into one phone number and divied out to all advertisers or have each ad display a different phone number.

  5. Pass out your CD-ROM or diskette business cards at special events. It could be at trade shows, seminars, fairs, etc.

  6. Get 250 free business cards here and leave them everywhere you go. vistaprint.com

  7. Hold a free offline class and teach people how to use their computer or how to use the internet. You could have your web site on display as an example.
  8. Give away promotional items such as free mouse pads. Put your advertising on the mouse pads and give them away at computer or internet events.
  9. Advertise in card decks. The card deck you advertise in should be targeted toward internet users.

You would also want to target your offline advertising to groups of people that will actually be interested in your product or service. If you're selling business books, you will want to market to business owners.

In conclusion, if you have a business that's only based online using offline advertising to make money online is a great idea because so many people today go online to get information about products and services they are interested in.

So Long

Today's issue was already plenty long so I'll be brief. Honest, I can be ;-)

If you're in the US, you'll be celebrating Thanksgiving before I see you again. I hope you can share the day with family or friends and that it's truly wonderful.

I want you to know that you're one of the things I'll be giving thanks for. Writing to you helps me hold on to my sanity. This little "hobby" I've acquired keeps me out of all kinds of mischief, too. That's a good thing :)

A reader sent me a little story this week that made a huge impression on me. I put it on our "Share" page so you could read it too. Go There.

Also, I really want to thank you for reading this today and remind you to be careful out there until I see you again.
